Feline atopic dermatitis; what is it and how do I diagnose it?

Feline atopic dermatitis; what is it and how do I diagnose it?

Dr. Tim Nuttall, RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology

Feline atopic dermatitis is a common yet controversial condition. It is one of the most common conditions to affect cats, and can cause a great deal of suffering and frustration. Despite this, the nature of the disease remains elusive. This lecture will show how the feline disease differs from other species. We will go through how to recognise feline atopic dermatitis, including some similar conditions to be aware of. We will study the different triggers for the pruritus and inflammation, and look at how these can be identified in each case. Finally, we will discuss the controversies over allergy testing and allergen specific immunotherapy in cats. By the end of the lecture you should be much more confident about recognising and diagnosing atopic dermatitis in cats.
