De neurologische spoedpatiënt
Veterinary surgeons can feel overwhelmed when having to evaluate feline patients with a neurological emergency. This feeling is underlined by the fact that the first veterinary surgeon that assesses these patients will likely determine if the animal survives or not. We will discuss the most common causes of neurological emergency presentation, such as acute hind limb paralysis, cluster seizures, status epilepticus and traumatic brain injury. We will discuss a logical stepwise approach, including initial stabilisation, identification of prognostic indicators and indications for urgent referral for each of these conditions. You might be surprised to learn that even cats with severe neurological signs can be successfully managed in private practice.
